A verdict of accidental death has been recorded

probably never know how Matthew had come to fall in the pond."

He said "It was healthy and natural for youngsters
to show an interest in water, and did not back calls from safety campaigners
to fill in ponds. "

"I can't say that I recommend that all ponds
should be filled up, because they provide so much pleasure to people and to
children. "I can only say that ponds can be dangerous places and people
should be aware of that."

I couldn't agree more!
Ponds are useful educational tools and a delight to explore. I have never
said I want ponds filled in I just want them protected from access until
it is practical for adult supervision! Just a few yards away from the three
ponds on Greenacres is a swimming pool that is also a pleasure and is supervised
always. The only time it isn't supervised is when it is locked up and no
access is available without the key! |
